This website is to host the FEMM project, under the Aladdin Free Public Licence. This project was transferred to a non-free fee based licence at v4. The previous releases can still be distributed openly under the terms of the licence for those versions. In accordance with the Aladdin licence, this site now hosts all available previous versions of the FEMM project. Previous hosting arrangements on Berlios had been withdrawn but there is no reason why the software should not continue to be available for free download from another site as this is specifically covered by the licence for those versions (which were downloaded before the Berlios site was withdrawn).
News: The FEMM project has re-appeared on Berlios and includes v3.4 which uses the same Aladdin licence. The v3.4 source is also now hosted here.
The full story of how FEMM ended up being hosted here in the first place.
The Aladdin Free Public Licence is NOT an Open Source licence or a free software licence and it is incompatible with the GNU GPL. If the original copyright holder is willing to allow a change of licence (we can hope) then we would seek an immediate change to the GNU GPL for v3.0, v3.1, v3.2 and v3.3 and this site will be updated as soon as this becomes possible. In the meantime, please read the Aladdin licence carefully as it contains elements that are very different to more common open source or free software licences.
The original Windows cabinet files have been unpacked using a free software tool from the GNU/Linux Debian distribution and although the .cab files are hosted here, the complete and uncompressed contents are also hosted, along with traditional .tar.gz tarballs for GNU/Linux or Unix users.
Note: This site uses the dispensations and permissions granted by the licence for the relevant versions - it is not specifically endorsed by the copyright holder. If you find any of these files useful, please contact us.
The Aladdin Free Public License itself (Version 9, September 18, 2000) can be found online and from this website (in case the remote link goes down) and is included in each source tree, cabinet file and tarball.
